::University Computer Centre
University Computer Centre focuses mainly on creating computation potential and making it available to other university entities for education, research, collecting and exchanging information, managing the university and connecting the university to global computer networks. University Computer Centre manages the university computer network, first of all its main servers. The Centre coordinates computerizing activities. Although there are many other laboratories at the faculties, which are better equipped with latest soft-ware, the Centre is still the place, where students spend a lot of their time in front of the computers. Students of all the faculties have an access to our computers. Both individual students and the whole groups can use our them. When there is more work than usual, individual students can come to the Centre and use the computers round-the-clock. The University Computer Centre does its best to be as friendly to the disabled students as possible. The building where it is located is equipped with the drive for wheel chairs and a new lift, which is safer for students who cannot see. Computer labs have been adapted for the disabled. They are equipped with special desks and chairs and the space between them are bigger. In 2000 The University Computer Centre began servicing blind students. At present the laboratory has computers equipped with Braille Voyager, Neurosoft Syntalk SAPI and navigation software Henter-Joyce JAWS. Also, there are 21" monitors which enable students to see better. The lab is in a separate room and is meant for classes with disabled students, who cannot see well. The Department of Computer Science designed a modern enlarger for the presentation of printed materials, especially graphics. This enlarger follows the standards of picture presentation (restoration above 85Hz) and can be suited to different eyesight problems. It also give the possibility of dumping pictures to a computer file or watching the picture in the application window. DIRECTOR |
